Tottenham Hotspur defeated Burnley 3-0 at home in their opening Premier League clash of the 2025-26 season. The North London club delivered a menacing performance under their new manager, Thomas Frank. The headline performance of the day came from Spurs’ forward Richarlison.
The Brazilian scored in the 10th and 60th minutes of the game to bag a crucial brace for Tottenham. Richarlison took both of his goals quite well, especially the second goal, the bicycle kick he scored, which could already be defined as one of the goals of the season. Brennan Johnson‘s 66th-minute goal further enhanced Tottenham’s grip on the match.
Mohammed Kudus shines in his Premier League debut for Tottenham
Mohammed Kudus stepped up in his Premier League debut for Tottenham Hotspur. The new signing from West Ham United bagged a double assist against Burnley. The 25-year-old turned provider for both of Richarlison’s goals in the match. Kudus proved to be a difficult proposition for Burnley’s defenders. His pace and quality contributed heavily to the Spurs’ thumping 3-0 win.
The Ghanaian international utilized any space given to him by the opposition’s defensive line. Kudus effectively made use of wide areas of the pitch to put in productive crosses in the box. The winger received a standing ovation from the home crowd upon his substitution. If this is the sign of things to come, Tottenham and Thomas Frank might have a game-changing player on their hands.
Spurs look like an improved side under manager Thomas Frank
The 4-3-3 formation Thomas Frank played in his first Premier League match for Tottenham as manager looked secure and sharp. The Danish manager set up a team that looked balanced while defending and effective while going forward in those attacking situations.
Under former manager Ange Postecoglou, while Spurs did score goals, they looked vulnerable and unsure in their defensive setup. It’s still the early days of Thomas Frank’s era at the North London-based club; however, it looks like Spurs have an identity and there’s a way in which they want to play. The club currently sits in the top four of the 2025-26 Premier League table as of now.
