The Box Office has been ringing with different kinds of movies in October 2025. October 17 saw the release of two major films, each belonging to a different genre. The horror movie ‘Black Phone 2‘ arrived with high anticipation riding on its prequel’s commercial and critical success.
On the other hand, Keanu Reeves and Seth Rogen-starrer, ‘Good Fortune‘, promised something different to the audience, blending comedy, fantasy, romance, and action.
Black Phone 2 had a decent start at the box office. The horror flick raked up a gross domestic first weekend of around $27.33 million (via Box Office Mojo). The movie just about maintained its pace during the weekdays to land a decent first-week number.

Adding a combined sum of about $8.72 million from 1st Monday to Thursday, the horror film finished its first week at $36.053 million at the domestic box office. Both the first weekend and the first week numbers for the movie stand greater than its 2021 prequel, ‘Black Phone‘.
Good Fortune finds its audience despite losing out to Black Phone 2 at the box office
Coming to the other October 17 release. Lionsgate’s Good Fortune was never tipped as a movie aiming for gigantic box office numbers. However, with a decent cast, the film had the potential to attract a special segment of the audience.
The first week numbers of around $8.69 million at the domestic box office are not that striking. But, taking into account the way it was pitched, at least the movie had been able to bring in some sort of numbers. Good Fortune had an opening weekend of $6.16 million domestically.
Now, of course, word of mouth, even after the first week, will play a significant role in how Black Phone 2 and Good Fortune perform in the long run at the domestic box office.
Black Phone 2 still needs a solid week 2 to progress towards its prequel’s domestic lifetime collection of around $90.12 million. The movie will face competition from ‘Regretting You‘, ‘Shelby Oaks‘, and ‘Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere‘ in its second week.
