Arsenal hijack Eberechi Eze transfer as Tottenham dealt huge blow: Reports

Arsenal hijacks Eberechi Eze transfer and lands blow to Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur

Arsenal has quietly snuck in and has hijacked a transfer deal for Eberechi Eze. The Crystal Palace‘s star attacking midfielder was for all money starring down a transfer to Tottenham Hotspur. Multiple reports in the English media were pointing towards Spurs working on the final pieces of a deal to seal a transfer for Eze.

Fabrizio Romano also laid down that Eberechi Eze was closing in on a transfer to Thomas Frank‘s Tottenham and could be announced soon. However, as it pans out, Spurs’ Premier League rivals Arsenal have other ideas as the Gunners have reportedly agreed a deal in the region of £67.5 million (as per The Guardian) to sign the 27-year-old English player.

This will further add to Mikel Arteta‘s side’s attacking prowess, as the club has already added players like Viktor Gyokeres and Noni Madueke to their squad in the 2025 summer transfer window. Reportedly, Eze preferred a move to Arsenal over Spurs, as both sides had a deal in place with Crystal Palace.

After losing Eberechi Eze to Arsenal, Tottenham’s path to securing other potential transfer targets also looks a bit bleak. According to Fabrizio Romano, Man City is not eager to let Savinho leave the club to join Tottenham at this moment in time. This makes Spurs’ desire to work out a potential deal for the Brazilian difficult.

Romano has also envisaged that City values their player higher than the price that Tottenham is willing to pay. On the other hand, Tottenham have also been linked with Aston Villa‘s attacking midfielder Morgan Rogers. The forward recently bagged the PFA Young Player of the Year award. Rogers has been an important piece of the puzzle for Unai Emery’s Villa’s success in recent times.

The reports had it that the Birmingham-based club doesn’t want to sell Rogers at this moment in time. Despite that, Spurs are considering the 23-year-old as one of their transfer targets. Also, Tottenham’s interest in Southampton‘s Tyler Dibling may be a difficult one to get over the line, with Everton at this stage seemingly looking a likely destination for the player.

Eze is not the first one to slip through Tottenham’s hands

Eberechi Eze is not the first transfer target that has slipped through Tottenham’s hands in the 2025 summer transfer window. Spurs were also reportedly battling Man United earlier in the market for Bryan Mbeumo. With the player having played under Thomas Frank at Brentford, the links looked promising. However, Mbeumo’s wish to join the Red Devils prevailed.

Spurs did end up signing Mohammed Kudus, but one could only wonder how Bryan Mbeumo could have flourished under Thomas Frank at Tottenham. Seemingly, the North London-based club was potentially in the race to sign Jaoa Pedro as well. The former Brighton player later ended up signing for Chelsea.

For Spurs, currently, the most important thing is that they are off to a winning start in their 2025-26 Premier League campaign. Thomas Frank must look to build upon this momentum and utilize the resources he currently has at his disposal.
