Fixture: Liverpool vs Tottenham Hotspur
Venue: Anfield, Liverpool
Arne Slot’s Liverpool faced struggling Tottenham Hotspur in their 34th game of the 2024-25 Premier League season. A win for Liverpool would have granted them the league title for this season, as it would have created a 15-point gap between them and the second-placed Arsenal, with just 4 games to go.
On the other hand, Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham are struggling to find any sort of momentum this Premier League season. However, being the underdogs in their trip to Anfield, the fixture against Liverpool allowed them to show some metal and maybe pick up a surprise win towards the end of a lukewarm top-flight campaign.
Liverpool vs Tottenham – First Half
Tottenham Hotspur took an early lead through Dominic Solanke in the 12th minute of the match. However, Liverpool quickly responded. Luis Diaz equalised and made it 1-1 on the scoresheet in the 16th minute, through an assist from Dominik Szoboszlai.
Just under ten minutes after Diaz’s goal, Alexis Mac Allister gave the Reds a crucial lead in the 24th minute. The Argentinian pulled off a terrific finish to Liverpool ahead by 2-1 after Ryan Gravenberch pounced on a loose ball from Tottenham’s defence.
The first half couldn’t get more worse for Spurs, as Cody Gakpo stepped up to make the scoreline 3-1 in favour of Liverpool, sending the Anfield crowd into pandemonium.
Second half – Liverpool clinch Premier League 2024-25 title
Liverpool’s talisman, Mo Salah, made the scoreline 4-1 in favour of the hosts in the 63rd minute of the match. Just about 6 minutes later, Spurs defender Destiny Udogie‘s own goal made it 5-1 in favour of the Reds. At that stage, it certainly felt that it was a matter of damage limitation for Tottenham.
As the final whistle blew, Liverpool clinched the 2024-25 Premier League title with 4 games to spare. A thumping win over Spurs lands them on 82 points, with second-place Arsenal lagging behind on 67, with just 12 points more to play for.
Of course, a dismissive loss for Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham, whose below-par and disastrous Premier League campaign continues.
