Tottenham Hotspur have agreed terms with Premier League rivals West Ham United‘s forward Mohammed Kudus, according to the latest reports. Thomas Frank joining Spurs over the summer has made escalations, as this would be his second signing after Kota Takai.
According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, Kudus will complete his medical at Tottenham. The £55 million transfer fee agreed will be paid over three years to West Ham. Romano insists that the Ghanaian attacker had already made up his mind to join Tottenham. Kudus will sign a six-year contract at Spurs.
Appearing in over 70 games for West Ham, Kudus displayed sheer strength and hunger in the Premier League. His dribbling prowess and versatility as a right winger, attacking midfielder, or left winger made him a fan favourite.
Although the numbers from his last season for West Ham reflect a less prolific campaign, he is a far better player. Kudus registered 5 goals and 3 assists for the Hammers across 32 appearances in the 2024-25 EPL campaign.
UCL football a crucial factor in Tottenham attracting players
Reports indicate that clubs like Manchester United, Al Nassr, and Al Ittihad initiated contact with Mohammed Kudus. Tottenham having Champions League football to offer for the 2025-26 season, following their UEFA Europa League 2024-25 triumph, might have stood out among the others for Kudus in making a decision.
Moreover, after the initial £50 million bid was rejected by West Ham, Spur’s consistent pursuit denotes their faith in Kudus.
Tottenham’s need for bench-strength in order to juggle Premier League and Champions League football next season has definitely urged their management to bring in quality additions in the ongoing summer transfer window. With Kudus now joining Thomas Frank’s side, they will have a certain depth to their attacking resources.
What does Mohammed Kudus’ arrival mean for Brennan Johnson at Spurs?
Mohammed Kudus’ potential arrival at Tottenham Hotspur could significantly impact Brennan Johnson’s role, given their positional overlap as primary right-wingers. However, with both players possessing different kinds of attributes, Thomas Frank will have a hefty prowess for service on the right side.
With both competing for similar roles, Johnson’s minutes could be reduced, especially if manager Thomas Frank prioritises Kudus’ explosiveness.
Johnson, having his contract running till June 2028, will have an interesting season ahead as he faces competition on the right for the first time in his Spurs career since Dejan Kulusevski’s shift to midfield.
