Wolves are reportedly eyeing a summer transfer move for English midfielder Josh Brownhill. The former Burnley player is currently a free agent and is out of contract since July 1, 2025. The 29-year-old has played in the Premier League earlier for Burnley. Brownhill holds a decent pedigree in the top tier of English football.
There’s a shaky and below-par start to the 2025-26 Premier League campaign for Vitor Pereira’s Wolves. It is quite evident that reinforcements are needed in certain areas of the field to avoid a long, troubled season. The Old Gold has obviously lost big players like Ryan Ait Nouri, Matheus Cunha, and Nelson Semedo recently.
On the attacking front, players like John Arias, Fer Lopez, and Tolu Arokodare (not yet officially announced) have joined Wolves in the 2025 summer transfer window. The midfield remains an area that visibly needs more bite and options. As per ‘GiveMeSport‘, citing a report by ‘Sky Sports‘, Josh Brownhill is currently a Wolves target, and the club is in talks for the midfielder.
Josh Brownhill could add experience and guile to the Wolves midfield
In the 2024-25 EFL Championship season, Josh Brownhill made 42 appearances for Burnley. The English midfielder had 24 goal contributions (18 goals and 6 assists) to his name during these appearances. There is no doubt over the fact that Brownhill could make a significant difference to Wolves’ midfield, adding the quality and guile of his Premier League experience.
Vitor Pereira does have Andre and Joao Gomes in the midfield as his preferred options. However, an out-an-out different kind of midfielder, of Brownhill’s capabilities, could act as a cover for those two. Also, with Josh Brownhill in the squad, Pereira can easily switch to playing 5 in the midfield instead of 4.
Earlier, the reports insisted that, given the makeup of the squad, Wolves need a home-grown player to be one of their transfers through the door. That’s why names like Josh Brownhill and Middlesbrough’s Hayden Hackney have popped up. Let’s wait and watch what decision the Old Gold’s hierarchy takes in order to solve the dilemma surrounding their midfield depth.
