Chelsea transfer news: Summer transfer window 2025
Chelsea have started their 2025 summer transfer window with a bang. The Blues have reportedly secured an agreement with Ipswich Town for striker Liam Delap.
As per Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are set to trigger Delap’s release clause, which is reported to be around ÂŁ30 million. Romano has also envisaged that Chelsea’s Premier League rivals Man City are not going to use their buyback clause on the English striker, as Liam Delap has ‘accepted’ Enzo Maresca’s project at Chelsea.
However, Man City will get a feasible chunk of about 30% for any transfer deal between Chelsea and Ipswich for Delap. This will be as proceedings for their earlier induced sell-on clause.
Romano has also hinted that the 22-year-old forward is likely to sign a long-term deal at Chelsea. He also tipped that the Blues qualifying for next season’s UEFA Champions League and Enzo Maresca’s ‘impact’ on the transfer played a crucial role in Delap agreeing to join the London-based club.
What does Liam Delap add to Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea?
In a tough 2024-25 season for Ipswich Town, Liam Delap proved to be a shining light. The English striker looked tailor-made for the Premier League. The 22-year-old scored 12 goals and secured two assists in his 37 outings for the Tractor Boys. This was his first top-tier English football season.
Chelsea does have Nicolas Jackson, who usually plays an out-and-out striker role for Enzo Maresca’s side. However, Delap’s addition to the Blues’ squad will only strengthen their firepower and goal-scoring prowess up front.
The English striker is magnificent in the air and feeds on productive crosses in the box. In addition to that, he is pretty clever in sniffing out goal-scoring scenarios in the final third. Delap often finds himself in a potent position inside the final third. The 22-year-old is quite capable of finishing any half-chances or clear-cut opportunities.
With Chelsea having players like Pedro Neto, Moises Caicedo and Cole Palmer in the first eleven, Delap could get plenty of joy while playing upfront for Enzo Maresca’s team.
Chelsea eye a summer move for Man United’s Kobbie Mainoo
A report by Transfer News Live on ‘X’, backed by ESPN FC, signals that Chelsea are potentially ‘eyeing’ a summer move for Man United‘s outcast Kobbie Mainoo. The England midfielder hasn’t been a regular starter at Man United under Ruben Amorim.
Since the arrival of Amorim, Mainoo’s role with the Red Devils has strangely been limited to substitute appearances from the bench. At one point in time, under former manager Erik ten Hag, the 20-year-old looked like United’s X-factor in most of the games he played.
However, United’s loss could prove to be Chelsea’s gain. The Blues’ midfielder Enzo Fernandez has been linked with a move away from the Stamford Bridge in recent times. Mainoo could be looked at as one of his potential replacements.
Other than that, Chelsea do need to add depth to their midfield options. It will certainly help Enzo Maresca tweak and manage his side better when they juggle Premier League and UCL football in the 2025-26 season.
