Joao Pedro on Chelsea’s transfer radar amidst Newcastle links: Reports

Joao Pedro is one of Chelsea's transfer target

Brighton forward Joao Pedro is one of the top targets for Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea this summer. However, the 23-year-old Brazilian forward is also being linked heavily with a move away to Newcastle United. It can be envisaged that the Seagulls will demand a top fee for Joao Pedro as he is currently under contract with them till June 2028.

The Brazilian player had a decent 2024-25 Premier League campaign for Brighton. In 27 appearances, he scored 10 goals and had 6 assists to his name. With his clever movements inside the box, also possessing a mixture of strength, pace, and a decent finishing ability, Joao Pedro can easily trouble any opposition defender.

As per ‘Fabrizio Romano‘, Chelsea ‘seriously consider’ Joao Pedro as one of the players in their transfer target list this summer. Despite signing Liam Delap recently, the early signs are that the Blues might still be in the market for a center-forward. Additionally, it is worth noting that Enzo Maresca has Nicolas Jackson in his squad.

However, a recent report by ‘Sky Sports’ has revealed that Jackson’s future at Stamford Bridge is ‘uncertain’ at the moment. Italian clubs such as Juventus and Napoli, among some other clubs, are keeping a tab on the Senegalese striker. Perhaps, this is the reason that Chelsea are still eyeing those attacking reinforcements this summer. Joao Pedro is one of the players rated highly by the Blues’ hierarchy.

Multiple reports in the English media have indicated that Newcastle United are plotting a move for Joao Pedro this summer. Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano has also recently reported that the Toons are ‘in active talks’ for the 23-year-old forward.

This doesn’t come as a surprise for Newcastle’s fans, especially with their star striker, Alexander Isak, being consistently linked with clubs like Liverpool and Arsenal. Despite the fact that Eddie Howe’s side has qualified for the Champions League 2025-26, it could prove hard for them to keep hold of Isak for a long period of time.

Someone like Joao Pedro could really provide Eddie Howe a player with a similar profile to Isak. Even if Isak doesn’t leave anytime soon, Joao can be that back-up option for Newcastle United. Especially considering the fact that they will have to juggle the Premier League and UCL football again next season.
