The Premier League 2025-26 season hasn’t been welcoming to Wolves. The Midlands-based side sat at rock bottom on the league table with just 3 points to their name after 19 games into the campaign. When an out-of-form West Ham United arrived to play a crucial fixture at Molineux this weekend, there was certainly a decent opportunity for Rob Edwards-led Wolves to register their first win of the EPL season.
Through an early Hwang Hee-chan ball into the box, Jhon Arias scored his first Premier League goal for Wolves and handed the hosts a 1-0 lead early in the game. Wolves’ youngster Mateus Mane was brought down in the box to hand hosts a penalty, which was then scored by Hwang, to give Rob Edwards’ side a crucial 2-0 lead.
Just when things couldn’t get any worse for Nuno Espírito Santo’s West Ham, youngster Mateus Mane struck again for Wolves. This time, the 18-year-old scored a sensational goal into the bottom left corner, beating West Ham’s goalkeeper Alphonse Areola, to put the Old Gold into a dreamy lead of 3-0 in the 41st minute of the game.

West Ham United Struggled To Break Down Wolves
With three goals down even before the half-time whistle blew, in such a crucial fixture, there seemed to be no way back for West Ham into the game. When the second half arrived, the Hammers did see a lot of the ball, but were unable to find any potent penetration into the Wolves’ defense. Attacking players like Jarrod Bowen and Crysencio Summerville struggled to make any significant impact on the day.
For Wolves, it seemed like this win was coming. After their recent performances in the league against Liverpool, Man United, and Arsenal, it was visible to an extent that they did carry that threat going forward, and somehow, the defense has managed to enable them to stay in the games for longer durations. The three points against West Ham come as the first win for Rob Edwards as Wolves manager since taking over from Vítor Pereira.
For West Ham, the loss against Wolves piles further pressure on their manager, Nuno Espírito Santo. The London-based club is staring down the barrel of a potential relegation this season. It now makes their next Premier League outing against Nottingham Forest, to an extent, a must-win 6-pointer fixture. The Hammers currently sit 18th in the league table with 14 points to their tally. They are 4 points behind 17th-place Nottingham Forest, and 2 points ahead of 19th-place Burnley.
