“We shouldn’t forget” – Jamie Carragher gives stern verdict on Ange Postecoglou after Tottenham Hotspur lose against Nottingham Forest

Tottenham Hotspur registered their 18th loss of the 2024-2025 Premier League season after a 1-2 defeat against Nottingham Forest at home. The loss continued Ange Postecoglou‘s side’s poor run of form in the top tier of English football. Spurs have now lost 4 of their last 5 Premier League matches.

Despite the team’s lacklustre performances in the league recently, manager Ange Postecoglou believes that his team has been playing well in the recent games they have lost. As per the reports, Ange has also stated that it’s more of individual mistakes in crucial moments of a match that have cost Tottenham all three points on a few occasions.

However, former Liverpool player and Sky Sports Pundit Jamie Carragher wasn’t having any excuses for Tottenham Hotspur’s recent bad run of form.

On the Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football post-match segment, analysing the patterns by which Spurs have lost their last few matches, losing any potential chance to revive their league form and the way Postecoglou has conducted himself in the post-match interviews, Carragher made his point clear.

The former player inserted, “We shouldn’t forget that, they (Spurs) are in poor form. They lost last week at Wolves 4-2.” “The manager is talking about, we are playing good football, we are letting ourselves down with a couple of mistakes. Big thing for him (Postecoglou) is how his team is playing with the ball, if his team is playing well with the ball, he feels like his team have played well, and he will put that down to a couple of concentration (lapses), a couple of mistakes.”

Carragher further insisted – “Football is about – with the ball, and without the ball. If he’d played well, he would have done well in both the categories, and that never really happened with Tottenham.”

The recent lapses of concentration from the Spurs’ defensive players and toothless attacking patterns do signify that the team is quite far from firing on all cylinders. This has happened despite Ange Postecoglou now getting some of his main players available and back from injury concerns.

The 2024-25 UEFA Europa League competition is where Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur are placing all their hopes on to revive their below-par Premier League season. The competition may turn out to be a gateway for Spurs to seal a potential UEFA Champions League spot for the next season.

With a 1-2 aggregate scoreline win over Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt across the two legs of the Europa League quarterfinals, Spurs find themselves in the semifinal of the European competition.

Tottenham will face the Norwegian club FK Bodo/Glimt in the semifinals. There lies an underlying opportunity for Spurs to secure a place in the final of the 2024-25 UEFA Europa League. However, the unpredictable nature of Postecoglou’s team and recent Premier League performances does leave a doubt on whether they will be able to do the job or not.

The other semi-final of this season’s Europa League will be played between Man United and La Liga side Athletic Club. So, there lies a chance for Tottenham to possibly face off their league rivals in the finals of the competition if they both progress through the semi-final stages.
