The worldwide hit US TV series The Last of Us has embarked on its second season journey, released in April 2025. After the love that the first season witnessed from the audiences all around the globe, it was a no-brainer that a second season was imminent.
Everything about the TV series screams a high likability factor among its audience. However, what stands out apart from its story is The Last of Us’ cast. Lead actors Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal have been able to leave a memorable and unforgettable impression on the viewers through their unique on-screen chemistry and performances.
The lead cast and their performances in The Last of Us stand out as a big factor in the show’s success
Among the years in different types of TV series and movies, we quite often see a father and a daughter pair being able to connect with the audience through their emotional attachment and affection for each other, visibly portrayed on screen.
However, the relationship dynamism between the lead characters in The Last of Us, as in ‘Ellie’ (played by Bella Ramsey) and ‘Joel’ (Played by Pedro Pascal), is more tilted towards a witty friendship and a bond developed over a certain period.

Concerning the age difference between the two characters, the writing perfectly balances itself to show Bella Ramsey’s character as a more enthusiastic child or a coming-of-age girl.
While at the same time, the story portrays Pedro Pascal’s character as one who is more focused on his goals, with a tinge of introversion, but has a big heart, and despite being restrictive to start with, is now willing to do everything to protect Ramsey’s character from any possible danger.
The cute little visible enigma between these two characters always wins over the audience and shines through in many scenes. How they manage to cop with difficult situations, and string plans to keep each other safe or out of any potential trouble, and navigate through decision-making conversations, all seems so fresh on screen.
Despite the series dealing with a complex subject matter/theme landing on a serious front of post-apocalyptic nature, the light moments are what make the show stand out, and the writing, alongside the screenplay, deserves credit for it.
