Rúben Amorim has been sacked by Manchester United (as per Sky Sports). The Premier League club has reportedly parted ways with the Portuguese manager following their last league outing, resulting in a disappointing 1-1 draw against Leeds United at Elland Road. United have managed to win only 1 game out of their last 5 EPL fixtures.

The Red Devils currently sit at 6th spot in the Premier League table with 31 points to their name in 20 games played. The only shining light is that they are the third-highest goal scorer in the 2025-26 EPL season as of now. Their goal tally of 34 sits behind Man City’s 44 and Arsenal’s 40.

After Rúben Amorim managed to oversee his side in an impressive 1-4 victory against Wolves at Molineux early in the month of December 2025, it seemed like his ideas at United were finally clicking, and the players were performing on the same page. However, since then, it has been a downhill trajectory for the Red Devils.

Manchester United’s Last 5 Premier League Games Under Rúben Amorim

Manchester United’s 4-4 draw against Bournemouth at Old Trafford showed the team’s defensive vulnerabilities despite it being one of their best attacking performances in recent times. 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa at Villa Park showed that Amorim’s side is still quite a work in progress. With a 1-0 win over Newcastle United at home, it seemed like they could well be among the UCL places when 50 percent of the season will be played.

However, a 1-1 slump to the bottom of the league, Wolves at Old Trafford, followed by another lackluster 1-1 draw against Leeds at Elland Road, finally resulted in the club’s hierarchy deciding to sack Rúben Amorim. As per reports, for the time being, Darren Fletcher, United’s Under-18s boss, will take charge of the club in their next EPL fixture against Burnley at Turf Moor.

The pressure was building on Amorim after a recent string of below-par results. With the last transfer window that United had, it was expected that they would be winning a lot more games in the 2025-26 Premier League season. However, that didn’t turn out to be the case, as the club struggled to find any consistent run of results till now.
