Benjamin Sesko transfer: Man United and Newcastle in a face off

Man United and Newcastle United are both interested in a transfer move for RB Leipzig's striker Benjamin Sesko

Manchester United is certainly not giving up on its pursuit of signing RB Leipzig‘s striker Benjamin Sesko. The Red Devils are reportedly giving a tough run in the 2025 summer transfer market to Premier League rivals Newcastle United, who are also lining up a transfer move for the 22-year-old Slovenian international.

Well, United has already signed players like Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo in the ongoing transfer window. Adding a player like Sesko could further boost manager Ruben Amorim‘s attacking prowess at the Red Devils.

On the other hand, Newcastle signed Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest earlier this window. However, the tinge of uncertainty regarding their star striker Alexander Isak‘s future at the club could really be the factor behind Eddie Howe looking at an option like Benjamin Sesko in the transfer market.

As per David Ornstein from ‘The Athletic‘, Man United is ‘closing in’ on a deal with RB Leipzig for Benjamin Sesko. However, Ornstein did signify that Leipzig initially accepted Newcastle United’s offer of around €85 million (€82.5 million + €2.5 million) for the striker.

Further, he indicates that Sesko ‘wants‘ a move to Man United at this stage. But, nothing is sealed and done yet with any club-to-club agreement still remaining to take place. This could be slightly shocking for Newcastle United’s supporters and hierarchy as they do have Champions League football next season, which United can’t offer to Benjamin Sesko in the 2025-26 campaign.

All in all, at this stage, it is quite clear that there is still a two-way battle for the signing of the Slovenian striker. It remains to be seen whether Newcastle will further chase the 22-year-old forward.

Despite several reports recently suggesting that Liverpool have halted their pursuit of Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak, it might be slightly too soon to cement that the Toons’ hierarchy are relying on the Swedish international completely for the 2025-26 season. Especially after Fabrizio Romano recently stated that Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez is closing in on a move to Al-Hilal in the Saudi Pro League.

When one comes to Isak’s weighing up a move to Anfield, the reports so far highlight that the 25-year-old does favor a move to Arne Slot’s side. Newcastle United’s manager, Eddie Howe, reportedly also admitted that the transfer saga for Isak might have gone a bit further than what the club would have liked.

It is no surprise that amidst these circumstances, the Toons’ hierarchy has been scouting possible striker alternatives, and Benjamin Sesko lies at the top of their potential transfer targets.
