The Conjuring: Last Rites needed no further invitation to cause havoc at the domestic and international box office. The highly anticipated horror movie has already been the talk of the town, riding on decent to positive word of mouth. Now that its estimated box-office numbers are coming in, the results are quite staggering to witness.
As per ‘Box Office Mojo‘, Michael Chaves-directed horror flick, The Conjuring: Last Rites, has collected an estimated gigantic sum of around $34.5 million on its opening day at the domestic box office. It must be kept in mind that this number might include some of the Thursday’s paid preview sum as well.
On the international box office, the reported estimated numbers lie around the mark of $47.3 million after the first Friday. This brings the movies’ combined global opening day box office collection to a sum of about $81.8 million. Following the opening note, an early projection of the 1st domestic weekend collection of around $100 million can’t be ruled out.
The Conjuring: Last Rites’ opening weekend comparison with the predecessors
The Conjuring 2 (2016) reportedly garnered an opening weekend collection of about $40.4 million. The first movie in the franchise, The Conjuring (2013), earned a domestic opening weekend sum of around $41.8 million.
Considering the early 1st weekend projection for The Conjuring: Last Rites, the fourth and possibly the last movie in the franchise has almost surpassed its notable predecessors by an exceeding margin of 250%.
This proves that the latest movie in The Conjuring franchise has landed at the global office with serious intentions. However, still, the effect of progressing word of mouth after the completion of its first weekend could play a significant role in determining its all-time position among this year’s movies at the domestic and international box office.
