The Strangers: Chapter 2 has failed to replicate the opening numbers of its prequel at the domestic box office. The Renny Harlin-directed movie, starring Madelaine Petsch in the lead, has drastically fallen short of The Strangers: Chapter 1‘s domestic opening weekend sum of around $11.82 million.
The second installment in the trilogy, The Strangers: Chapter 2, has managed a gross domestic opening weekend number of about $5.9 million (via Box Office Mojo). This is almost a direct decline of 50% in the box office numbers compared to its predecessor.
It is quite clear that clashing with the Leonardo DiCaprio starrer ‘One Battle After Another‘ at the box office hasn’t helped the horror mystery movie. Still, the opening numbers coming in are disappointing to an extent.
The Madelaine Petsch starrer movie reportedly collected $2.4 million on its opening day – Friday, September 26. The horror mystery followed it up with steady numbers just over $2.1 million on Saturday. It then witnessed a notable fall, garnering close to $1.4 million on Sunday.
The Strangers: Chapter 2 lags behind other similarly pitched horror movies

Considering the opening weekend numbers, The Strangers: Chapter 2 might wind up its first week around $7.6 million-$8.4 million. Ideally, this would have been the minimum first weekend domestic box office sum that the makers/producers would have hoped for.
The disappointment also lies in the fact that the opening weekend collection of the horror mystery movie is somewhat lagging behind other similarly pitched horror movies of 2025, falling under the same category or project scale.
The second installment in Lionsgate’s The Strangers saga has lower first domestic weekend numbers in comparison to movies like Drop ($7.39 million), The Woman in the Yard ($9.39 million), and Until Dawn ($8.00 million).
Now, it all depends on how The Strangers: Chapter 2 wraps up its first week at the domestic box office. Studying the current trend, it looks likely to fall behind the lifetime domestic collection ($35.20 million) of its prequel at the box office.
